Africa isn't just bigger than Russia — you could drop the USA, China, India and most of Europe inside it, and still have room to spare.
The illusion. On most world maps, Russia looks huge and Africa looks smaller. It's an illusion. Africa is about 1.8 times larger than Russia — roughly 78% bigger.
The culprit. The Mercator projection (1569) was built for ship navigation. It stretches areas the farther you get from the equator. Russia, far north, gets inflated. Africa, on the equator, is shown almost true — and still wins. Greenland looks Africa-sized on these maps, but it's fourteen times smaller.
The true size. True Africa spans about 30 million km². It can fit the USA, China, India, Japan and much of Europe inside it — and still have room to spare.
