A Sheet Of Paper Can Reach The Moon — In Just 42 Folds

Imagine a sheet of paper about 0.1 mm thick. Fold it once: 0.2 mm. Again: 0.4 mm. Again: 0.8 mm. Nothing feels remarkable. But every fold doubles the thickness.

After 10 folds, it's over 10 cm thick. After 20 folds, more than 100 metres. After 24 folds, it stands over 1.6 kilometres. After 42 folds, it would be over 440,000 kilometres thick — enough to reach the Moon, if such perfect folding were physically possible.

That's the power of exponential growth. Our brains are wired for straight lines. We expect progress to add. Reality often multiplies.
