Economists linked a million children's school records to their tax returns twenty years later. They were looking for whether one good teacher in primary school still shows up in an adult life.
It does. A child who gets a strong teacher for a single year is more likely to reach college, earns more at 28, and is less likely to become a teenage parent. Swap out a bottom-5% teacher for an average one and that class gains roughly $250,000 in lifetime earnings between them.
One year. One classroom. Still measurable two decades out.
That is only the part money can see. Nobody has built a regression for being believed in — for the person who made you feel capable, seen, and worth more than you thought you were.
Today is World Teachers' Day.
Somebody did this for us. Today's a good day to tell them.
