Everything that fell that morning has been rebuilt. Everything except one thing.
The towers came down, and a new skyline stands in their place. The markets closed and reopened within the week. Aviation protocol was rewritten. Agencies, policies and careers were remade. Even the assumption that a Tuesday morning is safe broke — and that was rebuilt too, because we learnt and we changed. Trust, given years, came back.
Buildings can be raised again. Economies recover. Systems get stronger. Institutions adapt. Societies heal.
2,977 people can do none of those things. That is the whole ledger. Every year the names are read aloud, one by one, because a name is the only thing left that can still be held.
Nothing you're afraid of losing is irreplaceable, except the people you care about.
